3 Doors Down debut, "Kryptonite" was a surprise hit and generated a buzz at the local radio station (WCPR) in their home town of Biloxi, drawing large crowds to the bands local live shows. The word was out and extended their range to New York's CBGB's. The CBGB's show brought them to the attention of Republic Records where "The Better Life", was born in 2000. In 2001 the band released "Away From the Sun" which debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. The album went Gold with their smash single "When I'm Gone".
